Vata (Autumn) Season Support

  • 2 Steps

About

Autumn, in Ayurveda, is considered Vata season. Governed by the elements of space and air, the qualities of air (think wind) really stand front-and-center during autumn. Air is light, cool, subtle, dispersing, drying, and mobile . Space is also cool, subtle, and vast. Seasonal transitions are considered a time of disruption, on a physical and subtle level. Digestion, sleep, even mood and energy levels can be affected. This holds even more true as we make the shift from summer into autumn. Transition is movement, movement is the air element. Fire (summer heat) is drying and when you add in air, it's like you're stoking a fire. Autumn season can cause our skin to become dry, digestion to slow (constipation, gas, bloating), and sleep to become disrupted (the mind can't stop moving). During vata season we want to find practices, foods, and experiences that help us feel grounded, nourished, warm, and hydrated. Lean into slower movement, foods that are soft, warm, and heavy, and find ways to soothe your mind and nervous system. I've created these practices and a supplemental PDF to guide you through different vata balancing seasonal rituals. Included is a seasonal yoga flow, meditation practice, and pranayama experience. The PDF shares more daily routines, additional practices, and some of my favorite recipes. I hope you enjoy and find support!
