About the event

Join Shea for this 4 hour workshop where you’ll learn how to balance the ayurvedic doshas using yoga asana.  In this workshop we will weave together yoga asana and ayurvedic philosophy to create a deeper understanding of how subtle energy moves and affects our elemental nature.  Just as yoga asana is dynamic, our yoga practice is meant to shift with us as we move through the different seasons of our life .  What’s supportive during one period may no longer be supportive in the present moment.  In this workshop you will learn how to discern when it might be time to mix up your regular asana practice so that it’s more supportive of your current life experiences and wellbeing.  If you’re a yoga teacher you’ll gain insight into the more subtle aspects of sequencing a class and the effects it will have on your students or private clients.

This workshop will be a combination of lecture and experiential asana practice.  We will take a dive into basic ayurvedic philosophy: 5 element theory, the 3 doshas, 10 pairs of opposites, and the ayurvedic time clock.  We will also look at Ayurveda through the lens of yoga and explore how they intersect (did you know that traditionally, yoga asana and ayurveda were not practiced separately?).  Time will be spent exploring the biodynamics and energetics of sequencing and how to use this knowledge to balance the doshas.  You will also be guided through 3 short asana practices to balance each dosha so that you can relate the material to your own experience.  The workshop will end with time for questions and deeper exploration.

This workshop is open to all levels of practitioners but it is suggested that you have some experience with yoga asana.
